Frequently Asked Questions
When is the new book launched?
The updated 2020 version of ‘How Bad are Bananas?’ is released on Thursday 3rd September by Profile Books.
Can I still use the game and cards I have?
Don’t throw them away! If you buy the new version from us we can also send you some tags to include on the 2010 cards so you can then use them for comparison purposes. Quite a lot has changed over the last decade in the carbon footprint world and it will be useful to show your game players how carbon footprints have in some ways reduced and others increased over the last 10 years.
When will the 2020 versions of the game be available?
This has all been slowed down considerably due to the C-word which we won’t mention!
We’re hopeful to get the games and the Carbon Academy ready to launch by the end of this calendar year and we’ll let you know as soon as we have a launch date available.
What is the new smaller version of the game? Is it different to the big version?
To make the game accessible by schools and charities we have made smaller more compact versions split into two different sets so you can buy as few as 40 cards or the full 80 cards of the game. They are mostly the same cards just with a few switches.
The small versions have no playing wall – just a simple strutted showcard to place the card comparisons against.
Otherwise the games are played in exactly the same way – the footprint of different cards are compared with others.
What is the online Carbon Academy?
To ensure players are suitably trained to use the game with others we are putting all the learning about the game online, with videos showing you how to play and the best ways to facilitate games with others. All purchases of the new big version will also be given access to this learning package so you can train your facilitators in their own time. You will not necessarily need a day of training as before.
Where can I access copies of the new book?
Copies of the new book can be pre-ordered from all reputable booksellers.
Will there be a launch of the new games?
Yes – we do hope so and you can be the first to hear about it!
We have already been trained – can we just buy a replacement game without paying for a day of handover training?
Please contact us to discuss this. If it’s been a number of years since the training then it might still be useful to have a refresher training session for your game facilitators.
We’ve updated our training and learning over the years and will be offering hybrid options where you can study entirely online, attend face-to-face learning when the time is right or have a mixture of both (or Zoom-based if that’s preferable).
Will we get access to the Carbon Academy when we buy the 2020 versions of the game?
Yes, yes, yes! We want you to get all the support you need to play the game regardless of your finances. You will get access if you buy either the big or small versions of the game.
Can we access face-to-face training on how to use the games? When will this be available?
We are hoping to launch a ‘Carbon Literacy for Educators’ course at the same time as the games and when it is safer to do so we will make a face-to-face version of the training available. It is likely to be launched as virtual in the first instance.
When will there be a digital version of the game?
We have a concept for this and are discussing how to make this happen. As soon as we have any firmer plans we will let you know.
How different are the 2010 and the 2020 versions of the book and games?
Well – we wouldn’t want to spoil the surprise so we recommend you get a copy of the book when it is published so you can see for yourselves!
But there are new items added in such as Twitter, The Cloud, electric bikes and even space tourism. Like its predecessor, it’s an awesome read. Our games will reflect the changes made over the last decade and some of the new items from the 2020 version.
Can I sign up for an e-letter so you can keep me in touch with developments?
